BSAC Eastern Region

Practical Rescue Management Course

On the 19th March 06 Paul Carrier and Alex Liddon attended the BSAC Practical Rescue Management course, organised by the BSAC Eastern Region training team at Gildenburgh Waters, Peterborough.

In the morning we had theory lessons, which included helicopter operations, management techniques and casualty care together with group discussions on how to deal with different rescue scenarios and how you can prevent diving incidents.

After lunch the groups carried out a range of scenarios in open water with 1 individual selected to be rescue manager and 1 to be the casualty. The rescue manager decided the role of the remaining people.

The course was very useful in raising awareness of potential incidents and the way to prevent them, as well as showing the techniques to rescue divers if things go wrong.

This course can be used towards the BSAC Dive Leader qualification and as part of the Dive Rescue Specialist after successful completion of additional rescue qualifications.
