Lowestoft BSAC 671 has received Awards for All funding for £4505.
The grant is to be used for putting four members through the instructor training
programme, six members through an O2 Administration course, the purchase
of two sets of O2 Administration kits, two sets of pool equipment a PC projector
and screen. "This was the clubs third application for funding, but it
was well worth not giving up. It will give us the tools to provide a good
grounding for new members coming through and allow us to train using modern
up to date equipment", reports Glynn Conolly the clubs current
president.
There was also a report in the Lowestoft Journal about the 2004 free
try dive night which featured a picture of the club being presented with
a cheque.
The club was lucky enough to receive a sports lottery grant of £4097
in the Autumn of 2000 after a lot of hard work, time and effort put in by
our training officer Colin Goodley and his wife Gloria. The money was put
to good use and we managed to get a great deal on 6 complete sets of scuba
gear for training purposes.

The Awards For All funding group requested that we give a
demonstration of how we used the £4097 we received for training equipment
in August 2000 and how this had benefited our organisation. This was done
in the form of a display stand at the Marina Centre Great Yarmouth on the
6th of February 2002. The club had a video display as well as training manuals
and a display of some of the actual equipment purchased with the grant.
Since receiving the grant the clubs training ability has improved
significantly, this coupled with one of the best pools for training in the
area puts the club in a good position to offer diver training from Snorkel
diver to Dive Leader under the BSAC. This equipment enables all trainees
to learn on new and up to date equipment and eases the burden on members
by not having to use their own equipment, while also giving trainees time
to think about the equipment they will purchase for themselves. |
